The new division will focus on providing students with old exam papers, revision notes and assignments online, says Student Hub's Jana Esterhuysen.

Educational online service provider for students Student Hub is extending its e-commerce platform by introducing an e-learning component where students can access study support tools.

This Web site, which provides a platform where students can buy, rent, sell textbooks and discuss study-related issues, says it aims to provide innovative services and solutions to facilitate an ease-of-learning journey for students through the new division.

Imrah Gliwa, chief marketing officer of Student Hub, says through this new service, the start-up aims to deliver a "balance" by identifying areas of weaknesses within the education system and areas where some players benefit more than others.

Through this, she adds, new processes and tools will be created to optimise the synergy between all education players where everyone can win.

"With the new e-Learning division, our vision is to create a world where options to access and comprehend information are multiplied and tailored to the learner, and where willingness to learn is the only attribute required to become an expert in any field," asserts Gliwa.

General manager of Student Hub Jana Esterhuysen says the new system will focus on giving expert support tools and coaching systems to students through the provision of old exam papers, revision notes and assignments online.

She points out these tools and systems are built to help students at all levels (high schools and tertiary) increase their productivity and performance in various subjects, by focusing on getting them to pass all their exams with distinctions.

"Through the e-learning division we will also launch software that will help teachers and lecturers at all levels [high schools and tertiary] to increase their productivity while improving the interaction and cooperation between themselves and their students," notes Esterhuysen.

She adds the new division will be introduced in June. At the moment, the site is proving popular among the 40 000 students who use it mainly to rent, sell or buy their prescribed textbooks at affordable prices.

The Hub has a network of students from educational institutions in SA and around Africa who will benefit from the new service, explains Esterhuysen.

Discussing its payment process, she says the company recognises the need for various payment methods within the student community as not all students have access to online payment services or card facilities, and prefer cash payments.

"One of our trade processes involves the availability of our H-bucks Vouchers (currency of the Student Hub) at every academic retailer on campuses, reselling agents and through its own online platform and application.

"Students will access the services by purchasing vouchers that will give them access to various options and features based on their study styles and needs. As we roll out other services we plan to monetise through various other options that will be revealed when we launch those new services," concludes Esterhuysen.
