Sun ships new management tool
The new xVM Ops Center can automate operations workstations running Linux and Solaris, reports Washington Post.
Ops Center's features include automatic installation of firmware and bare-metal operating systems; scanning and tracking of servers in a network; and patch-management tools.
With Ops Center, Sun will go up against ICT management powerhouses such as HP and IBM.
Software emerges as ICT category
AMR Research has found that software suites are emerging as a category, and the overall market has grown to more than $13 billion in revenue in 2006 with expected growth across the ICT management landscape over the next three years, says Earth Times.
The AMR Research report, titled "IT Management: State of the Market", (published 22 January 2008), is now available.
The AMR research says: "Globalisation and the need to capitalise on technology for competitive advantage has led IT organisations to focus on improving underlying processes and overall responsiveness to business change. This has made IT management software a priority for IT organisations."
Open source solution named tops
Zenoss Core has been named a finalist in the Software & Information Industry Association's 23rd Annual CODiE Awards, according to Market Wire.
Zenoss Core is an integrated open source IT management software solution that allows IT administrators to track the configuration, performance and health of their IT environment.
The company is now recognised along with industry leaders Red Hat and Sourcefire.
