Sybase SA has signed a partnership deal with Edge Consulting, a local empowered consulting and integration company.
According to Sybase SA channel and partner manager Shiona Blundell, the formal partnership agreement was signed on 23 April. The contract covers Sybase's PowerDesigner all-in-one modelling and design solution and mobile infrastructure offerings.
"PowerDesigner is a point product and thus well-positioned to be taken to market through the channel and ties in well with Edge's services and consulting offerings," she states.
According to Edge Consulting CEO Mannie Moreira: "Edge has a relatively young data management focus, and we have our own products in that space, specifically a tool called Data Assist, a fully functional report information repository and reporting tool, as well as consulting experience in this area. So we've got the customers and the relationships and Sybase has the product."
Part of the reason for the partnership, he adds, is the consolidation in the business intelligence (BI) space, which has seen smaller players swallowed by larger organisations, which are now charging somewhat increased fees to renew maintenance agreements.
"We think we are well-positioned because we have a locally developed product that can replace current solutions at maintenance prices. With a brand like Sybase behind us, it gives the right international flavour and that's very attractive to us."
"Sybase has BI tools that compete in that environment," Blundell notes, "but they are enterprise tools and come with an enterprise price tag. We've been looking for a tool to take to the divisional and SME space, and are very excited about Edge's offering."
On the mobility side, Moreira says the company has been playing in the space for several years and is now seeing the market mature.
"Sybase is working with Edge in this space, supplying the infrastructure side," says Blundell. "We're an infrastructure organisation and don't necessarily have the applications; Edge has those applications."
While no deals have been signed yet in terms of the partnership, two are on the table and, says Moreira, progressing well.
