Symetrix bullish about SME outsourcing market

While many companies that initially pursued a slice of the IT outsourcing market are no longer around, Johannesburg-based IT solutions company, Symetrix, says it has succeeded in going after the mid-range market.

"We've managed to grow each year anywhere between 100% and 300%," says Symetrix MD Ben Swartz. "In the past year we've also seen a massive growth of about 500% in terms of what we have procured from our black empowerment partners for our customers."

Swartz ascribes this partly to the company's ability to capture share in the rapidly growing small and medium enterprise (SME) market of companies with 50 to 500 users. "We have been positioned in the mid-range market where Microsoft has grown and as a Microsoft gold partner, we've taken advantage of that."

SMEs are becoming more comfortable with the concept of outsourcing and are looking to experts and professionals in their area who can provide a quality , says Swartz.

"Symetrix sees the SME market as being wide open. The number of signed contracts has grown rapidly - up to 40% in the past year - and there is no sign of a slowdown and so we consider the prospects as being very big."

Symetrix says that as a multi-vendor solutions provider, it can customise solutions for clients. "The SME market has responded well to the provision of a total solution, where new companies simply pay for a service that includes the supply, implementation, deployment and management of all its IT needs without any real capital outlay.

"We run off a refined business model," concludes Swartz. "Running by design and not by default means everyone understands what relationships are all about. The importance of interaction with the customer is part of the company culture and extends throughout."
