Duxbury Networking, the distributor of Huawei Technologies products in SA, has released the Quidway NetEngine edge router.
Positioned as a high-end network product, and targeted at virtual private network (VPN) and network service provider applications, the NetEngine is able to support user requirements for quality of service (QoS) assurances through its distributed routing and data transfer architectures.
"The NetEngine edge router is an intelligent device which is able to support wire speed switches and optimise bandwidth through multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) traffic routing, prioritising and other congestion reducing features," says Graham Vorster, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking.
"With its high-density interfaces, it is able to control and manage data traffic to the core network and carry out QoS-based IP data flow classification."
When two or more NetEngine routers are deployed together on a network, they are able to act as mutual standby devices incorporating redundant power supply systems. "Hot swap" functionality is available on most components and boards.
NetEngine`s software supports a range of backup techniques, including multiple backup of links, interfaces and routes, as well as the inter-device compatibility.
From a technical perspective, the NetEngine router has an IP packet forwarding capacity of up to 140Kpps. Each logic interface supports up to 4 096 queues and over 100 000 routing table items.
A variety of routing protocols are supported, including BGP-4, OSPF, RIP and IS-IS.
