Tata Communications has appointed board director Vinod Kumar as its new MD and CEO.

Kumar replaces Narasimhan Srinath, who has been appointed as MD and CEO of Tata Teleservices.

The company says Srinath will continue to be a non-executive director on the board of Tata and some of its associate companies, like Neotel.

Kumar joined Tata Communications in April 2004. He was closely associated with the acquisitions of TGN and Teleglobe, and assumed responsibility as MD of the company's international operations, says Tata.

He is currently the company's president and COO, and will assume his new positions on 1 February.

“Kumar is responsible for expanding Tata Communications' roadmap and charter in the global communications market. In his current role, Kumar leads the company's efforts in creation, marketing and delivery,” says the company.

It adds that besides heading these strategic initiatives, Kumar is president of and Mobility Services and MD of Tata Communications International.

Kumar has over 20 years of experience in the global telecoms industry, says Tata.

Srinath joined Tata Communications (then known as VSNL) in 2002 as director. He was appointed as MD and CEO in February 2007.
