The Magix Ringtone Maker is a bit of a handful

This could be the answer to your ringtone prayers, but be warned, it is not without its short-falls.

When presented with the Magix Ringtone Maker, I though all my ringtone prayers had finally reached the ears of the powers above, but I was a little let down.

I presumed that this was going to be ringtones for dummies, but it is only in theory that any tune can be turned into a ringtone for a compatible mobile phone in the simplest way.

Someone has slipped up somewhere with a clumsy product activation system.

It`s not that the process is particularly tricky, but every time a new ringtone is made, the program insists on a new activation. As a result, users have to activate the software repetitively.

This is all the more irksome as the software itself actually surpasses other packages that have tried to tackle the same task.

It does itself few favours by initially looking quite daunting, but a quick glance at the tutorial video is taken and it`s smooth sailing. In addition, there is a lot of help, support and useful options available.

To make a ringtone, select a music file, isolate the area of the clip which will play as the tone via a simple visual timeline, preview it and then export it. Features, such as the number of beats per minute, can be changed and up to four separate tracks can be run alongside each other.

A quick button simulates how the tune is likely to sound when coming out of a mobile phone rather than a PC`s audio system, which is great.

Ringtone formats are available as MP3, AMR, WAV and SMAF. A handy link of what phone takes what format is provided. New model phone users, however, might have the problem of not having their phones listed.

It also instructs how to get the ringtone from a PC to a mobile, handling any necessary Bluetooth and infrared work (assuming the necessary hardware is in place), as it rightly should.

With a hearty collection of samples also provided, the Ringtone Maker is successful as it allows ringtones to be made quickly and easily, which could save the regular down-loader a small fortune.

I can see entrepreneurial high school students making extra spending money off this product.
