Touchline Media completes cross-forest Exchange 2010 migration

Exchange migrations are often challenging, but even more so when merging two disparate Exchange organisations. This was the challenge that faced Touchline Media when it needed to migrate its existing Exchange 2010 organisation to the Media24 Exchange organisation.

Cape Town, South Africa, 02 Oct 2010

The migration consisted of transferring authentication and e-mail services to the Media24 infrastructure in order to merge the two environments. The challenge was to ensure system availability while the migration was in progress and this required a toolset that could fulfil a number of crucial needs. Quest Migration Manager for Exchange was chosen as it had the broadest range of functionality and ticked all the required boxes.

“Migrating user accounts and e-mail resources while retaining free/busy information is a daunting task, but the Quest Migration for Exchange allowed us to run our migrations in batches which allowed us to overcome all these hurdles” says Willem Swart, IT Manager at Touchline Media. “The migration was completed in less than a week and more than 300 users and mailboxes were migrated in the process.”

Quest Migration Manager was configured to allow full coexistence during the migration of users to ensure that e-mail flow and free busy information would remain intact. During this process, evolv networks supplied consulting and deployment services to prepare the environment for the migration.

The migration challenges faced by Touchline Media IT come in many different variations, including migrating to Hosted Exchange or Office365. Other scenarios include cross-platform migrations such as GroupWise and Domino to Exchange.

“Similar to other migrations, the planning and preparation consumed the majority of the resource time and attention to detail ensured the project success,” says Gerhard Conradie, MD at evolv networks. “The Migration Manager toolset is ideal for many scenarios, and by partnering with Blue Turtle Technologies, we are able to ensure exceptional results when migrating to Exchange 2010.”
