Vietnam bank sets rules

The State Bank of Vietnam said in its latest regulation that commercial banks must have at least one trillion Vietnamese dong (U$62.5 million) in equity if they want to sell shares to foreign investors, according to China News.

Besides the equity requirement, which has now been met by most of the banks, unlisted joint stock banks must have a non-performing loan ratio of no more than 3% when applying to sell shares to foreigners.

Strategic investors must commit in agreements to assist their Vietnamese partners in developing banking products and services, and improve corporate governance and technology capacities, with a clear timetable of implementing the commitments.
