A new update to Twitter will now make conversations and interactions on the platform easier to follow. The update will link all relevant replies to a particular tweet in chronological order.
"Conversations surrounding a tweet, particularly if they've sparked lots of replies and disparate conversations, can be hard to follow," says Akarshan Kumar, Twitter product manager, in a blog post.
Tweets that are part of a conversation are connected by a line underneath the original tweet.
"We're grouping conversations together and highlighting some of the most interesting exchanges surrounding a given tweet right below that tweet. To surface some of the most interesting conversations, we'll take factors into account like whether the original account has replied," says Kumar.
Users are able to see more of a specific conversation by clicking "View other replies".
A recent study shows only 40% of South African Twitter users actually tweet daily; 52% say they read tweets in their timeline daily, and 37% say they look at the trending topics daily. This means there are more people watching their timelines and observing Twitter conversations than there are people actively using the platform.
"Like with other features, we will continually be iterating and improving on this experience to make it easier to understand and participate in conversations on Twitter as well as to find the best, most relevant content," says Kumar.
Kumar gave the example of a Q&A with Tony Hawk to highlight how the update will work. The feature is available on the Web site and will be rolled out to mobile apps in the next few weeks.
