Less than a week after Instagram officially removed support for Twitter cards, meaning the preview option that allowed its photos to appear directly on Twitter feeds, the micro-blogging social networking service has launched its own photo filter service.
This comes only a few days after Instagram-like filters for Twitter "to be launched with new versions of its iOS and Android apps before year-end" were reported as rumour.
In its blog entitled "Twitter photos: Put a filter on it" on Monday, Twitter said it had updated its app, allowing users to fine-tune and filter photos from inside the application.
"Starting today, you'll be able to edit and refine your photos, right from Twitter. The latest versions of Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android introduce a few new ways to enhance the images you tweet."

The latest versions of Twitter apps for iPhone and Twitter for Android have the filters, which are being supplied by photo-editing software development kit start-up Aviary.
Twitter now offers users four tools for photo enhancement:
* Eight filters - many of which mirror Instagram's photo effects - ranging from black and white to vintage.
* Bird's-eye view, which allows users to see how each filter would affect the photo in a single grid view.
* Frame the action: users can pinch to zoom in order to focus attention.
* Auto-enhance, which enhances and balances light and colours by the tap of a "wand".
