A local company is offering uncapped home and business ADSL, but users can expect to pay extra.
The products will target big business, down to the individual home user, says Scott Robertson, Web administrator at EndorphinWeb, a division of parent company GrowGraphics.
"The business offering includes a static IP address and a Cisco router. It allows unlimited traffic, with a contention ratio between 8 and 16-1."
The package costs R1 525 per month including VAT, and requires a once-off R1 655 set-up fee. Users will also have to sign a 12-month contract.
The small office, home office option is targeted at the home user, but users can still expect reasonable download rates, regardless of how much they download, says Tim Dancer, EndorphinWeb design and Web services development manager. "Both these offerings are truly uncapped. Yes, it is a shared service, but there is a large amount of bandwidth.
"One person downloaded 150GB in a month on our server. That is an extreme example, but it gives you an idea of the network capacity."
Robertson adds that connectivity speeds on the home user offering will not drop below 32KBps. This service will cost R745 a month, which does not include the monthly ADSL fee the user will have to pay to Telkom.
The service is more expensive than other offerings - Tradepage is offering iBurst wireless Internet access at R600 a month, although it is capped at 3GB - but Dancer says interest and uptake has been impressive so far.
"People just don`t want the hassle of a cap, while others simply want to download a lot. This is targeted at people who are willing to pay for a reliable, uncapped service."
