An American company that is targeting the $80 billion tech support market is to investigate setting up its second call centre operation in Johannesburg.
Juvio Corporation, which operates its original call centre out of San Diego, California, claims to offer a 24/7 computer tech support service covering the broadest range of mainstream hardware, software and peripheral problems.
"We want to be the number one provider of computer tech support in the world and we have recognised a niche in the market which we plan to dominate," says Juvio`s US national marketing director, Ed Terranova.
"At the moment, such support is generally offered by the suppliers of hardware and software, but since it is not their core business, it tends to take something of a back seat. How many people have struggled with tech support at some stage?"
Terranova says that Juvio has over 80 qualified support personnel, meaning that the company can offer support on virtually any hardware or software, rather than being product-specific.
"We have subscribers in 80 different countries and offer services in 17 languages, and we see SA as an ideal hub for our next expansion."
Trevor Nel, SA national marketing director, says the company already has about 10 000 local members, all of whom have joined through referrals, as the company does not advertise.
"In terms of overall subscriber numbers, SA jumped from 53rd to fifth in the space of eight weeks and it is continuing to grow, which is the reason that Juvio has decided to investigate setting up its second call centre here. Our rapid climb in subscriber numbers certainly brought us to the attention of our US parent."
He says the beauty of such a new centre lies in the fact that it will not only bring investment into the country, but it will also create jobs locally. The company also hopes to facilitate a tech support training centre, which will provide opportunities for locals to build a career in the industry.
