US uses BI in battlefield

The US Department of Defence is using business intelligence (BI) tools to help track and monitor injured and sick military personnel as they're transported for medical care, reports Information Week.

The US Transportation Command (US Transcom) has been rolling out Information Builders' WebFocus BI tools to improve planning, medical care, and monitoring of injured or sick military personnel while they're in transit.

The tools provide 'in-transit visibility' of these patients so the military medical facilities are better prepared with appropriate medical staff and services to treat these patients' often complex needs when they arrive, said Lt. Col. Keith Lostroh, functional program manager of the Transcom Regulating and Command and Control Evacuation System.

Technology Evaluation Centres (TEC), a resource for enterprise software selection, has released a BI market report that discusses the advantages of BI 2.0, according to PRWeb.

This report details how BI 2.0 can provide real benefits for organisations, and what product features to look for in a BI solution in order to maximise these benefits.

"By enabling the sharing of data-related knowledge through the BI system itself, business users become more self-sufficient and actions can be taken more quickly," says Russell Cooper, TEC's BI analyst.

SAP Asia-Pacific and Japan has unveiled enhancements to SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1, its newest BI software offering, states enterpriser.

Customers can take advantage of data navigation tools and increased support for smaller IT environments by using SAP BusinessObjects enterprise performance management solutions, which assist with planning, budgeting and accounts consolidation.

The BI tool allows users to search, explore and retrieve business information from any data source through simple keyword searches with SAP BusinessObjects Polestar. Users are able to retrieve specific data, like sales by region, by simply clicking on the report, data set or dashboard.
