UUNet SA has launched UUNet Mobile Office, which it says will provide roaming access to critical data.
The secure wireless data access solution will support any general packet radio service (GPRS)-enabled device, says product marketing manager Rowen Chetty. "Once a user makes a data call through their device, they are automatically connected to a local area network, wide area network, UUNet Data Centre or the Internet."
Mobile Office is offered through GPRS-utilising cellular providers in SA, and is a move towards converging both voice and data applications by making use of advanced network technology, he adds.
The solution will allow customers to work from almost any location by using their GPRS-enabled PDA, cellphone or laptop.
Cellular providers currently provide network coverage across 97% of SA.
The solution operates off a mobile subscriber integrated services digital network number provisioning that is distinct to each GPRS device, in addition to security technology implemented through the virtual private network provisioned at each customer`s LAN.
Chetty adds that Mobile Office is secured by multiple levels of user verification systems.
