The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) unsuccessfully explored all avenues to settle an ongoing dispute with Valor IT, it says, and the issue is now set to head back to court this year.
Despite Valor IT's claim that a settlement agreement was reached last November, the department argues this is not the case, and all negotiations were unsuccessful.
The parties initially ended up in court over a canned R153 million contract to implement a new IT system at the Companies and Intellectual Property Registration Office (Cipro).
Sidwell Medupe, the department's director of media and public relations, says, while the judge gave the parties an opportunity to settle the matter, it has not yet been finalised.
“All bona fide attempts to settle this matter were made with all avenues explored by the parties. However, no settlement could be reached or agreed upon. Consequently, this matter will revert to the normal court process for finalisation,” says Medupe.
Valor IT has argued that a settlement agreement was reached between both parties at the North Gauteng High Court in November. The IT company says it will go back to court to force the DTI to pay up in terms of the settlement agreement.
