VMware to sign OEM deal

VMware is expected to kick off its annual user conference in San Francisco by announcing an OEM agreement with Intel that would bring its virtualisation technology to system builders, reports ITBusiness.ca.

The deal means Intel, which supplies the chips that run in many virtualised servers, will be reselling the company's vSphere platform through its channel and system integrator partners.

VMware released version 4 of vSPhere in May, and claims more than 350 000 customers have downloaded it since then.

Channel key player in MS-Telstra partnership

Telstra has added Microsoft Online Services to its T-suite repertoire in order attract a broader customer base with channel playing a critical role in ensuring success, states ARN.

The telco's software-as-a-service platform was introduced in June to deliver software to organisations on a monthly subscription basis with a 30-day trial period for all applications. While the T-Suite was geared towards Australia's 1.9 million small to medium businesses, Telstra expects this Microsoft addition will appeal to enterprise users as well.

Telstra is the primary distributor of the standard suite Online Services, excluding Microsoft Office Live Meeting, in Australia. SMEs can purchase the products through T-Suite portal while enterprise customers can buy through a facilitated purchase with Telstra.

Chris Smith, former channel director for Northern Europe at McAfee, has moved into a head of regional channel sales for UK and Ireland position at Kaspersky. He will be responsible for the vendor's channel and partners, with the aim of growing its channel.

Tinesh Chhaya joins Kaspersky as head of sales for education. Prior to joining Kaspersky, Chhaya was head of the education sector for UK and Northern Ireland at Sophos and previously held roles at analyst Gartner. In his new role Chhaya will drive revenue for the education sector in the UK and Ireland to increase market share in the region.
