VOIP market down 8%
Large regional bell operating companies and incumbent local exchange carriers are scaling back on VOIP equipment purchases, according to PR Canada.
Infonetics Research says, in its new report, this is bringing down the worldwide service provider VOIP market by 8%, to $816 million in the third quarter of 2008.
The report adds the overall market weakness in Q3 was led by a steep decline in the high-density media gateway segment, as well as a dip in the softswitch segment.
Ascom Wireless adds VOIP
Ascom Wireless Solutions has added VOIP to the Ascom teleCARE IP solution, reports VOIP News.
The solution is intended for hospitals and allows nurses to speak directly with patients when they call. Communication is done while on the move, by means of Ascom DECT or VoWiFi wireless handsets.
Conversations can take place between patients and staff, and also between the staff themselves. All communication is done over the LAN using VOIP and SIP clients. Using the LAN makes it possible to connect multiple sites to one large, united site.
Du Pont, Teles tackle Africa
Berlin-based Teles is expanding its operation into Africa with the support of voice communications distribution partner Du Pont Telecom, according to PR Canada.
Du Pont Telecom has signed a distribution partnership agreement for the supply of Teles Access Gateways throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
Du Pont's CEO Graeme Victor says the Teles AGW product range makes an excellent addition to Du Pont's existing product portfolio, and will make a major contribution in helping it to supply what its customers in Africa require.
