VOIP to grow in US
A significant proportion of businesses in the US have deployed VOIP but there is also plenty of scope for future growth of the technology, states Telappliant.
An American business VOIP market study compiled by In-Stat says revenues derived from IP telephony topped $1.1 billion (R10.9 billion) at the close of 2008.
The research indicated that one in three American companies which have deployed VOIP now use it as their exclusive voice communication service.
EU to wiretap Skype
EU's judicial cooperation agency Eurojust will take the lead in finding ways to help police and prosecutors across Europe wiretap computer-to-computer phone conversations enabled by programs such as Skype, reports Baltic Business.
"We will sit together with all member states to see how this can be done technically and legally," says Eurojust spokesman Joannes Thuy.
Thuy stressed that wiretapping would not affect "normal users", but would be carried out only as part of a criminal investigation.
