South African IT figure Guy Whitcroft has been appointed as MD of JSE-listed Business Connexion's (BCX's) London branch, in what he says is an opportunity to help put the company firmly on the map in the UK.

Whitcroft, known locally for his 15-year career with distribution group MB Technologies and nine-year role as CEO of Tarsus, took the position of MD at BCX UK on Monday.

With nearly four decades of experience in the IT sector, Whitcroft has covered technical, marketing, sales and operations management with multinational vendors, distributors, resellers and end-users in markets spanning Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Whitcroft has spent the last five years in Dubai and, more recently, the UK - where he employed a consulting role with various companies in the IT sector and beyond.

"I have great respect for BCX and what the company has achieved since it started," says Whitcroft. He remembers the company well, from the "early days when BCX was a of ours at Tarsus".

BCX is a South African-based ICT company with a history going back to 1997. It has operations in Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Zambia, Tanzania and the UK. Listed in 2004, the company's business partners include industry giants such as Microsoft, Citrix, Cisco, SAP and IBM.

"The opportunity for me to work with the excellent BCX team to put the company firmly on the map in the UK is very exciting and I look forward to us doing so," says Whitcroft.
