Womad festival goes

The Womad festival taking place in Wiltshire will implement the latest high- wireless technology to support organisers, retailers and punters on site, reports Computing.co.uk.

As well as the organisers' Internet and voice over WiFi traffic, the 802.11n network will support on-site traders' wireless chip-and-PIN devices and IP-based surveillance cameras.

The festival is expected to attract up to 40 000 visitors, around 5% of whom may also log on from laptops or other portable Internet-enabled devices to browse festival-related content such as schedules, maps and weather reports for free, with a small charge levied for e-mail and Internet access.

Tata enhances Ethernet services

Tata Communications, a telecom and Internet services provider, has introduced advanced Ethernet services to help its customers experience high-speed, secure and cost-effective bandwidth, states Economic Times.

"Tata Communications' 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GigE) service is a cost-effective alternative for customers who need large bandwidths on a truly global scale. Our availability in 25 cities worldwide is unmatched in the industry," said John Hoffman, head of Ethernet services for Tata Communications.

The 10 GigE services help service providers reduce operational costs without sacrificing quality, according to the company.

Industry giants sign networking pact

Two industry powerhouses are teaming up to lock down the network with integrated and interoperable gear aimed squarely at medium to large enterprises, says ChannelWeb.

Extreme Networks and McAfee are working toward tighter integration and a joint go-to-market strategy that will break the status quo and make them a true "alternative" to the market leaders.

“We're going to be a better solution than Juniper," said Huy Nguyen, Extreme's director of enterprise solutions marketing.
