Workgroup, the specialist software company in the Siltek IT Supply Chain Group, has announced that it will no longer distribute the Santa Cruz Operation (SCO) product set due to conflicts with other ranges within its stable.
According to Workgroup MD, Doug Woolley, the conflict arose as a result of the distributor's close ties with Red Hat Linux and Citrix.
"We are sole South African distributors for both Red Hat and Citrix and have found that the SCO range due to the companies restructuring and resulting merger with Caldera no longer fits in with our current product set and would create huge competitive issues," he adds.
Red Hat product manager at Workgroup, Rachel Longster, says that Linux has matured considerably as an operating system and its uptake locally as a result has been phenomenal.
"More and more IT vendors are releasing Linux-based applications. Workgroup now has offerings from Novell, Citrix, Computer Associates, iPlanet and Symantec so we can provide a total Linux solution."
Citrix has also exceeded all expectations "Global and local markets have taken to server-based computing solutions incredibly rapidly," says Citrix product manager at Workgroup, Cherise Greenwood.
"Citrix server-based computing channel revenues reached our target of R20 million by the end of last year, and we saw over 256% growth in revenue from our channel partners," she adds.
