Bridges.org, an international organisation with a mission to help people in developing countries use information and communications technology (ICT) to improve their lives, will host two consultative workshops to engage stakeholders on the South African National e-Strategy.
This will form part of the organisation`s ongoing efforts to promote the effective use of ICT in the developing world, and will provide an opportunity for a discussion of issues with civil society stakeholders and the small business community.
One workshop will be hosted in Cape Town in partnership with the Cape Information Technology Initiative (CITI), and the other in Johannesburg in partnership with the South African NGO Network (Sangonet).
The proceedings of the workshop will be recorded and submitted to the National e-Strategy Task Team as civil society and small business perspectives into the ongoing strategy deliberations, and will also be publicly disseminated.
Sangonet believes that such stakeholder consultations are an essential part of any inclusive government process and are necessary to enhance procedural credibility, ensure popular buy-in, and to facilitate government policy implementation.
"We are inviting all interested members of the civil society and small business community in SA to attend one of the workshops, in order to share opinions and help ensure a supportive national e-strategy framework," says Sangonet`s Eric Muragana.
The workshops are free and will be held in Cape Town at the UUNet Bandwidth Barn on 25 August and in Johannesburg at the Parktonian Hotel, Braamfontein on 28 August. Both workshops take place between 8.30am and 12.30pm.
