X86 servers good for BI

Servers based on x86 architecture are growing in popularity among medium businesses because they assist in warehousing and (), reports TMC Net.

The report says medium businesses have increasing requirements for servers due to resource intensive IT applications and are turning to x86 servers mainly because of the low initial investments and maintenance costs.

The servers adhere to open standards, support Windows and Linux, and can be used for computing intensive applications such as those used in banking.

New window on SAP data

Panorama Software has unveiled plans to enable Microsoft Office 2007 to work as a primary BI front-end application for SAP BW through its NovaView product.

Microsoft Office 2007`s new BI capabilities were available only for customers using Microsoft SQL Server, but Panorama`s NovaView will enable SAP customers to take advantage of all the features and benefits that Office 2007 has to offer.

The Panorama solution is modelled after the Microsoft and SAP joint product - Duet, which enables users to interact with SAP business processes and data through Microsoft Office applications.

Agilysys introduces hospitality BI

Agilysys has released a hospitality BI solution that is aimed at improving decision making to enhance guest services and maintain guest loyalty.

The Agilysys Hospitality BI Solution enables the integration of data from reservation, point-of-sale, and inventory and procurement systems. This data is placed in a common cross-application content store, where it is available to all decision makers.

Agilysys says the new BI solution helps managers take advantage of existing data, analyse the results and make decisions more effectively and efficiently. It is also aimed at better aligning staff resources with guest levels, improving loyalty marketing projects, and tracking food and beverage expenditure.
