Zynga worth over $3bn

Zynga, the publisher of Facebook games such asFarmville, Mafia Wars and Texas HoldEm Poker, has not yet filed for an IPO, so its worth is yet unknown, says Channel News.

However, analysts from research company NeXt Up have used expected compound annual growth to calculate the company's worth between $2.8 billion and $3.3 billion, Zynga's user base increased from 30 million people in April 2009 to 228 million in January 2010.

With a significant presence on social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and Bebo, as well as iPhone apps, Zynga primarily makes money through in-game advertising and marketing offers, though the report stated that 40% of Zynga's revenue comes from the sale of virtual goods.

OnLive demos cloud gaming tech

Game streaming technology developer OnLive showed the progress of its upcoming service at the Dice Summit in Las Vegas, demonstrating a new version of the beta, an iPhone version of the client, and new social features, reports Gamasutra.

OnLive allows users to play high-quality video games by rendering graphics remotely and streaming the frames as compressed video - meaning no expensive game consoles or advanced PC graphics hardware is necessary on the user's end.

Founder Steve Perlman says the given delivery medium is becoming less and less important. People no longer say they're going to 'watch a DVD', for example; they simply say they are going to watch a movie, which could be delivered in any number of ways, including streaming.

MSI intros 3D gaming notebooks

MSI is rolling out a pair of gaming notebooks, the GX640 and GX740, both just 3.2kg and 2.8cm thick, says Techradar.

At the heart of the notebooks are Intel Core i5 dual-core processors and ATi Mobility Radeon 3D discrete graphics cards that offer full DirectX11 support.

The company promises exceptional 3D graphics for 3D games. The GX series are the first gaming notebooks to be fitted with Graphics Double Data Rate version 5 memory.
