Oracle president Charles Phillips has welcomed thousands of customers and partners to the Oracle OpenWorld conference, which gets under way in London today.

"This is a combined applications and technology event, indicating a trend in the IT industry," he said. "All technology companies will have to begin focusing on customers a lot more if they are to remain successful."

Oracle executive VP Sergio Giacoletto said this week`s event would focus on continued awareness around Oracle`s integration strategies and the growth of grid computing.

"I believe enterprise grid computing technology has the potential to change IT infrastructure the way the Internet has changed the way we use information," said Giacoletto.

The conference is on from 6 to 8 September. It aims to provide business and IT professionals with key information and strategies to help them improve processes and manage critical information assets.
