SOA, SaaS team up

Midmarket companies are moving quickly to incorporate the fundamentals of service-oriented architecture, or SOA, a loosely coupled enterprise architecture pattern that allows for applications to be easily modified, integrated and reused, says Search CIO.

Software-as-a-service, or SaaS, a software delivery model, is also being eagerly adopted by midmarket organisations and is finding a niche within SOA deployments.

The SOA focus on a business function, such as general ledger, makes the SaaS model a good fit, the article continues.

Metastorm expands in NY

Metastorm, a provider of enterprise architecture software, is expanding its presence in New York City with a new office in midtown Manhattan in August, reports Earth Times.

The new office will accommodate Metastorm's growing local employee base, as well as provide a venue for customer, partner and investor meetings.

Metastorm is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland and has international offices throughout Europe and SA, and North American offices in Tampa, Detroit, San Francisco, and New York.

Architects want support

According to Forrester Research, the biggest concern over open source adoption among European organisations is support, says Computer World.

At a symposium in Lisbon last month, Forrester talked to application development and enterprise architecture professionals from European firms that are actively using open source.

Intellectual property issues and security were less important than support. "None of the discussion participants indicated that security of open source or legal issues concern them - even when probed for a response," said the analyst.
