BI: Think quick!

By Tracy Burrows, ITWeb contributor.
Johannesburg, 18 Nov 2011

Business decisions need to be made faster than ever, and business intelligence (BI) needs to support this.

This is according to Rick van der Lans, international BI consultant and author, who will be a keynote speaker at the annual ITWeb BI Summit, on 28 and 29 February 2012.

Van der Lans says the way organisations make decisions is changing. They have to react much faster, and recent research has found that many enterprises find making timely decisions more difficult, he notes.

Also changing the BI arena are big data, the trend towards self-service analytics, and changes in the architecture of data warehouses. All this means BI needs to change to stay ahead of enterprise needs.

Van der Lans says to support faster decision-making, enterprise BI needs to be more agile. In addition, it needs to be easy to use, it must support self-service, and it must be capable of managing massive amounts of data.

His keynote at ITWeb's annual BI Summit will cover the 'new BI' and the changes taking place in the BI environment.
