MTN SA Foundation chief Eunice Maluleke has left the operator's corporate social investment (CSI) arm, after heading it up for almost four years.

While MTN says its employment relationships with its staff are confidential, the company has confirmed that Maluleke has relinquished her role as head of the MTN SA Foundation.

Themba Nyathi, chief human resource officer at MTN SA, says Maluleke is “pursuing other business interests”. He further lauded Maluleke for the work she did during her headship of the Foundation, which has the ultimate responsibility of investing in poorly resourced communities in SA. “MTN would like to assert that Eunice Maluleke has done an outstanding job for the MTN Foundation and communities at large.”

CSI credentials

According to Maluleke's CSI profile, her responsibility as head of the MTN SA Foundation was to “strategically position [the Foundation] for competitive edge and invest in poorly resourced communities”.

Maluleke was responsible for setting up the CSI division of Transnet in 2002. A qualified social worker, she has an MA degree in Social Science from RAU (now the University of Johannesburg) and serves on the boards of the Rand Water Foundation and Tshwane University of Technology.

The MTN Foundation's portfolio is made up of initiatives serving six South African communities in the areas of health, education, arts and culture, entrepreneurship, employee volunteerism and special projects.

The Foundation allocates a percentage of MTN SA's profit to initiatives across these pre-identified categories of social contribution annually.
