Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has appointed Darren Grasby as president of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Grasby, who joined AMD in 2007 as director of component channel sales for EMEA and has a wealth of experience in the high-tech manufacturing industry, will maintain his current role as corporate VP, worldwide component channel sales.

AMD is a semiconductor company known globally for developing computer processors and related technologies for business and consumer markets.

In his newly created position, Grasby's focus will be to strengthen key regions in support of driving deeper customer and partner relationships.

He will be responsible for driving AMD's global channel and building better and closer relationships with key customers and influencers. Grasby says his new position will enable him to promote AMD's technology leadership and highlight the innovation that is central to AMD's business philosophy across the EMEA region while ensuring that the customers, partners and stakeholders benefit from their products.

"Africa represents a big opportunity for AMD and a large market prospect for the IT segment. We are focusing on some key African markets like Nigeria, SA and Egypt where we are making good progress based on the growing adoption of our notebook and desktop products."

Grasby is also expected to broaden his influence and reach in supporting AMD's customers, partners and employees while also promoting and enhancing the company's regional reputation as an innovative technology pioneer, says AMD.

Dr Lisa Su, president and chief executive officer of AMD, says: "EMEA is a key region with a broad set of important customers, partners and markets for AMD. Grasby is a proven leader who is ideally suited to drive deeper customer, partner, and stakeholder relationships across EMEA as a part of helping AMD accomplish our long-term business goals."
