Knowing the answer to 'what' is happening is just the beginning, knowing the answer to 'why' it is happening is the next level.

"We hear it all too often. I want the facts, give me the facts. It's the call data has been the champion of. Because when you measure things, you can see them for how they are and not for what you may believe them to be."

So says Rob Zagey, senior BI analyst at Stanlib, who will be presenting on 'The emotion in data. When machines will know us better than we know ourselves,' at the ITWeb Business Intelligence & Analytics Summit 2018, to be held from 13 to 15 March, at The Forum in Bryanston.

Zagey says we often forget something: that data gives us the best view into the world of emotion - why we buy one product or service over another, and why we forgo the long-term for instant gratification, to name a few.

"This is something we can never get away from, nor should we because emotions are what make us deeply human. It's the human view," adds Zagey.

Zagey's talk will explore how data is the output of being human and how we'll come to know ourselves better than ever and even how machines will too.

"This should move us to do great things, solve big business problems, drive growth and champion the major challenges of today," he concludes.

His talk will also explore how machines will soon know us better than we know ourselves, as well as how the emotions in data are generating a whole new wealth of untapped insights.
