Datacentrix expects its recent win of a multimillion-rand outsourcing deal with Exxaro to expand its footprint and allow it to offer similar services to other mining groups.

The company announced last month that it won the deal after an 18-month lengthy and detailed tender process. Datacentrix will handle Exxaro's operations integration management, enterprise services management, and services relating to its network, servers and storage, for three years.

Datacentrix CEO Ahmed Mahomed says the deal will give the company a boost to offer infrastructure-related services to other mining houses, because it will aid Datacentrix in creating a footprint in rural areas.

The JSE-listed company already has regional branch offices in Pretoria, Samrand, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London and Durban, as well as a network of smaller companies and services personnel around South Africa that service outlying areas.

“The investment that Datacentrix made into its outsourcing business unit has certainly come to fruition with the awarding of the Exxaro tender,” says Mahomed.

Datacentrix has been focused on growing its skills in the outsourcing sector, as well as in networking, data centres and cloud computing, says Mahomed. He says the company is gearing up for changes it expects to see in the IT space over the next five years, and will continue to focus on growing its infrastructure and services offerings.
