Tarsus Technologies' CEO Pierre Spies is stepping down and looking forward to family time.

Tarsus Technologies, one of the biggest distributors in the country, has lost its CEO, Pierre Spies, who will leave in the next few weeks.

Spies tells ITWeb that, after being with the company for 21 years, it was time to move on. He will consult to Tarsus for the next year while being under a restraint of trade, but also expects to spend time with his family, and travel. "It's half a lifetime."

Spies has been CEO of the group, which is owned by MB Technologies, since 2007 and took over from Guy Whitcroft. He says Tarsus was his second ever job, but he is not in a hurry to make a decision as to his next move. "You never know where you end up, I've got a year to decide."

Tarsus will spend between four to eight months looking for a replacement, says Spies. In the meantime, Anton Herbst, who has been consulting to the company for a year, will act in the position, he says.

Anton Herbst was MD of Advanced Channel Technologies (ACT) between March 2001 and February 2011. Spies says he will leave in the next few weeks after a handover process. "It's time to live a little."

Spies obtained his BCom accounting degree, part-time, in 1989 from the University of Johannesburg and in 1987 joined Coopers and Lybrandt, an accounting firm in order to complete his articles.

His relationship with Tarsus Technologies began in 1992 when he joined the company as an accountant. Spies was promoted to financial director of Tarsus Technologies in 1994 and is credited with putting in place many of the business systems and controls for Tarsus's operations.

During his tenure, he was involved in every aspect of its business, from feasibility studies, capital raising and due diligence exercises through to acquisitions, reengineering and disposals of the company's subsidiaries.
