Avnet receives certification

Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of the global distributor of electronic components and computer products Avnet, has been granted certification under China's newly-implemented Reliable Electronic Component Suppliers (RECS) system, says QuamNet.

Avnet Electronics Marketing China is one of the first authorised electronics distributors to be qualified under the RECS system, which is endorsed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The RECS system certifies and authenticates electronic component manufacturers and authorised distributors who provide products from legal and reliable sources.

Tollbooths go hi-tech

The US's North Texas tollbooths will soon become a thing of the past as local toll roads get hi-tech makeovers, says WFAA.com.

The test run of Zip Cash at the Wycliff exit on the Dallas North Tollway proved successful for the North Texas Toll Authority (NTTA). While TollTags drivers travelled through the Zip Cash zone as usual, others got billed by technology that captured drivers' licence plates as their cars drove through without having to stop.

As part of the plan to go completely electronic, the NTTA will begin tearing out tollbooths this month.

Community holds first online meeting

A Whitby police inspector teamed up with his local paper to host an online community policing meeting with a town's residents, says Hold The Front Page.

Inspector Dave Barf and the Whitby Gazette, of the UK town Whitby, held what is believed to be first 'virtual' community policing meeting.

The experiment was such a success that it could be used as a model for future online chats on other subjects.
