Global tech giant Lenovo has unveiled a security platform, ThinkShield, for its enterprise clients that holistically protects Lenovo devices, and combats common vulnerabilities.

This was announced at the Lenovo Transform 2.0 event in New York City.

ThinkShield was designed to secure devices, guard against online identity theft and protect sensitive data.

Lenovo says its approach to security involves securing devices throughout their entire lifecycle. This means that when devices, such as laptops or servers, are being put together, Lenovo ensures each component manufacturer follows a strict set of Trusted Supplier Programme guidelines and best practices.

The company also has a policy that allows its quality engineers to audit any of its suppliers in its global supply chain at any time.

Lenovo has partnered with Intel to allow customers to be able to locate the source of each component of their new system through the Intel Transparent Supply Chain system.

The Lenovo products offered to ThinkShield clients are also designed to guard against threats. For example, shutters will be fitted on all PC cameras. The ThinkPad Privacy Guard security screen allows only the person using the laptop to see what is on the screen; anyone not looking straight on will see a black screen. There is also BIOS-based Smart USB protection, which allows IT professionals to configure USB ports to respond only to certain keyboards and pointing devices.

In another partnership, this time with Coronet, Lenovo will offer WiFi security, which detects threats and notifies users when they are about to connect to unsafe wireless networks.

ThinkShield also uses Bufferzone technology to isolate online threats before they infect the whole organisation.

The platform includes technology that gives IT admins a reliable two-way connection to all of their devices so they can secure endpoints, assess risk, remotely apply security measures to employee devices, and respond to security incidents.

Lenovo says once devices reach the end of their lifecycle, the company will keep potentially sensitive data secure by wiping the drives and securely recycling the parts.
