Gauteng-based tutoring educational tutoring company Saving Grace Educational Group has launched an online accounting tutoring platform tailormade for high school students, particularly grade 12 learners.

The online tutoring platform uses video tutorials that will cover the matric accounting syllabus, "The Accounting Online Coach is accessible from any device. Once the user has logged in, under Matric Video Courses one chooses the video topic they may be needing assistance with and buy it. The videos are priced at R80 per video and are available via live stream at all times for reuse. The videos are copyright protected to avoid downloads. The accounting courses are done via excel," explained Damilola Mukembe, co-founder of the group.

Mukembe says although the group has been facilitating one-on-one tutoring services to full-time and part-time students for the past five years, the was a growing need for an online platform. "The one-on-one sessions are a premium service costing as much as R300 per hour. There was a dire need for a more affordable service to assist accounting students hence the decision to create this platform to make it affordable to everyone who needs it."

She adds that future plans include development of a mobile app as well as integrating the grade 8 to 11 accounting syllabus into the platform. "The aim of the platform is to assist high school students with accounting through video tutorials and online tutoring. We have started with matriculants as it is such a crucial year for them. However, we will be making the platform available for grade 8 to 12's in due time. Once we have the syllabus on lock down for Grade 8 to 12 we will most definitely follow up with an app. For now the though, the Website is mobile friendly and has been set up for mobile site as well."

The company is currently in talks with various schools with regards to implementing the platform within the learning system. "With the years of experience tutoring learners, we know exactly where they struggle in terms of topics and which principles they don't understand and where they need help," she noted.
