Last month during the international awards ceremony in Las Vegas, it was announced that the ISACA South Africa chapter had been awarded the Best Very Large Chapter Worldwide. This follows the announcement two months earlier that the chapter had been awarded the Best Very Large Chapter in the Europe/Africa region chapter, the chapter with the highest growth rate worldwide, and a commendation for its Communications Plan.
"It has been an absolute honour to lead the chapter and to obtain these prestigious awards during my tenure," said Winston Hayden, immediate past president of the chapter. "It certainly feels good to be recognised and acknowledged as an industry leader on the international stage."
ISACA is the leading independent association for IT professionals in the field of governance, risk compliance, information security and assurance. ISACA has over 115 000 constituents in 200 chapters in over 180 countries in the world.
The best chapter award recognises chapters that have excelled in the following criteria:
* Chapter membership and growth;
* Member service projects;
* Chapter-sponsored educational events;
* Attendance at chapter meetings;
* Involvement on association committees or with association activities;
* Involvement with other professional organisations; and
* Compliance with ISACA international headquarters.
When asked what he did to achieve the awards, Hayden responded with praise to those around him. "All the recognition goes to the chapter board members, volunteers and staff for all their efforts over the last two years; without their contribution, we would not have achieved everything that we have. In order for us to pull together, I took what I call a 'holistic integrated approach', where everyone understood the interdependencies of our chapter's strategy, activities and duties.
"These acknowledgments also show that the South African community is a leading nation in the field of IT governance, as has been seen with the developments in corporate governance with the King III Report, and the adoption of the Corporate Governance of ICT Policy Framework within the South African government."
