Training service provider Torque IT has become an accredited Apple training company and will offer courses from this month at its Cape Town and Johannesburg centres.
The company, a division of JSE-listed Kelly Group, announced the accreditation last night. Its courses will cover the full suite of authorised OS X training, as well as iOS development that will include vendor migration and end-user integration.
Technical director Carl Raath says the move follows demand from its clients. He says the current Apple training was mostly provided by the Core Group, but this was not its core business.
Raath says the group will expand training to Pretoria and will then look at mobile units to cover the rest of the country, based on demand. He notes that these should become a reality within the next six months, as the company expects “aggressive” uptake.
Torque IT has seen “phenomenal” requests for Apple training, more so than its other technology offerings, adds Raath. He says the skills set taught will include networking, security and, at a later stage, mobility.
Apple is not currently a mainstream skill among IT administrators, but the demand is growing as people bring their own devices into the workplace, explains Raath. “It's a nice problem for us to have.”
Raath says the company will also include Apple training as part of its College Campus, which provides youth with computing skills. The company is also certified to administer exams, so it can provide both training and certification, he adds.
