Arcserve has appointed Tarsus Cloud On Demand, a local cloud platform and cloud products distributor, as the official local distributor of the company's data protection and recovery solutions in SA.

Through the agreement, Tarsus Cloud On Demand's partners are now able to extend their services to include the full range of Arcserve solutions for their end-user customers.

Jonathan Kropf, CEO of Tarsus Cloud On Demand, says through the appointment, Tarsus Cloud On Demand aims to develop new channels and partnerships on the ground to drive value in backup and disaster recovery implementations.

He notes with Arcserve now as a standalone entity, after being bought out of CA Technologies, a dedicated distributor will help drive the business forward and bring the company's products to a wider set of customers than it was previously able to.

The company's strategy as a distributor will centre around three key areas - firstly to grow existing customers and partners, secondly to acquire new customers, and thirdly to deliver on and enable its existing partners disaster-recovery-as-a-service strategies, says Kropf.

He points out traditional models of delivering IT have changed significantly and as a result vendors are looking for distributors that are aligned with the new style of delivering IT.

More and more, companies want to consume IT-as-a-service and scale up and down as needed, pay for the service and solution, not only the product. The legacy of costly, traditional implementations still has to be overcome, says Kropf.

For that reason, cloud-based disaster recovery and backup solutions can offer significant benefits to enterprises, specifically in the small and mid-markets that were not able to have access to this kind of solution before, he adds.

The appointment of Tarsus Cloud On Demand within the South African region will go a long way to helping Arcserve grow its partner base, states Rami Nasser, sales director, Growth Markets Europe, Middle East, and Africa at Arcserve.

There is a huge uptake of cloud-based backup solutions in SA, says Kropf. However, the country still needs to see more buy-in from the mid-market and smaller customers - they are the ones who will feel the highest impact of a disaster recovery, he adds.

"We see tremendous opportunities within the African region and look forward to further unlocking these with Cloud On Demand," says Nasser.
