Early adopters of Apple's music streaming service will have to decide this week if they want to continue using it for R59.99 a month.

Apple Music offered a free three-month trial for all new users at its launch in July.

Apple Music is a single app that allows users to stream music from the iTunes library, listen to a live, worldwide radio station, and "connect" with their favourite artists.

From Thursday, American users will be charged $9.99 a month, and South African users will pay R59.99 per month for a single membership and R89.99 per month for a family membership of up to six people.

Membership gives users access to the Apple Music library, with the ability to save songs to listen to offline. Those who opt not to pay the membership fee will still have access to the Beats 1 radio station and be able to use the connect feature.

There is the option to not allow automatic renewal. To access this, users should go into the Music app, tap on their profile page, then View Apple ID, then Manage (Subscriptions), then Your Membership, and turn the automatic renewal toggle off.

Last month, Apple announced the new music streaming service had attracted more than 11 million members during its free trial period, a response music industry experts called respectable but not overwhelming.
