Xbox supplies are back to normal locally, says Comztek, and its second consignment of consoles is worth 30% more than the first shipment, which is already in stores.
Heinz Stephan, technology director at Comztek, says: “It's going splendidly.”
Comztek took over distribution of Xboxes last month, after previous reseller MiDigital was placed under liquidation, leaving retailers in the lurch as supply of the popular gaming console came to a halt.
MiDigital's liquidation was a casualty of parent company Music for Pleasure not receiving the funding it required from investors.
Stephan says there was a slight delay in getting the consoles to retailers due to a product code change from Microsoft. However, this interruption only lasted a week.
Towards the end of this month, the company is expected to make an announcement about new games and accessories. While it is too early to provide details, Stephan says there is “a fantastic line-up of games and accessories heading towards Christmas”.
Slight delay
Retailers say there was a slight delay while Comztek took over from MiDigital, but stock is now arriving on shelves, in time for gaming sales to pick up as traditionally happens in September and October as outlets gear up for the festive season rush.
Grant Webster, Look and Listen's merchandise manager, says all stock levels are pretty much back to normal. He says September and October are generally good gaming months. “I'm very pleased.”
Webster says he has not received any reports of issues around warranty repairs, which continue to be handled by Powercare.
Patrick Raymond, CNA merchandise executive, says there was a delay in getting the gaming consoles into store, which impacted sales during July. He says year-on-year, Xbox sales were down due to the stock issue.
However, as of the end of last week, the company saw an upward turn in sales as stock arrived.
Musica MD Ralph Lorenz says: “There was an initial delay around the cutover phase of a few weeks, but stock is once again flowing in as per orders.”
