HP introduces RFID tracker

HP's new service enables customers to reduce property loss, increase and improve audit controls in the centre with RFID technology, says Using RFID.

The HP Factory Express RFID Service tracks critical data centre assets, such as HP factory-built servers, storage devices and rack enclosures, so customers can continuously monitor the equipment as soon as it is received at their facilities.

When deployed as part of a full RFID solution from HP and its partners, the service automates and tracks device movement, providing an accurate inventory of all assets throughout their lifecycle.

Smart food for the poor

The smart cards held by individual low-income earners might be used in place of coupons to provide them with food and other subsistence items, says MCOT.

The smart cards for low-income earners, whether in urban or rural areas countrywide, might turn into a prepaid monthly card for the holders to have access to food and other goods at discounted prices as well as reduced travelling expenses.

This move is being considered by the National Economic and Social Development Board, the Budget Bureau and the Fiscal Policy Office.

Mobile ticketing to grow

Juniper Research calculates that transport-based mobile ticketing will grow from 37.4 million transactions in 2007 to just over 1.8 billion by 2011, says Earth Times.

The Far East and China are making up 73% of the total number of transactions worldwide.

However, Juniper warns that there are still a number of major hurdles that need to be overcome in order for the mobile phone to be the major storage medium for tickets and coupons. These hurdles include technology challenges in the area of the delivery and redemption of mobile bar codes and the use of near field communication, or NFC.
