Microsoft has added to the reward being offered for the arrest and conviction of the author of the aggressive new MyDoom worm.

MyDoom.A and MyDoom.B - thought to have been created by the same author - first surfaced on Monday. The worms have spread aggressively and are designed to launch distributed denial-of- attacks on the Web sites of the SCO Group and Microsoft next week.

Microsoft has announced that it is offering a $250 000 (R1.75 million) reward for the arrest and conviction of MyDoom`s authors. Earlier, SCO Group offered a $250 000 reward. The FBI is also actively investigating the matter.

Anti-virus vendors say the worms appear to have been created as part of a sophisticated, sequential assault. The author has apparently signed the worm with the name "Andy" and included a message reading: "I`m just doing my job, nothing personal, sorry."
