Rumba subscribers have been without Internet access for over a week as the Internet service provider (ISP) scrambles to find a new partner.
Rumba had hoped to sign with an ISP partner today, to restore Internet access to users later this week. However, Charles Odendaal, Rumba marketing manager, says the talks collapsed. Talks with another potential partner are continuing.
Odendaal says part of the problem is that Rumba has promised subscribers they will continue to pay R49 a month for an ISDN line.
Rumba`s service was suspended after its connectivity provider, yournet, became embroiled in a financial dispute with Telkom and its connectivity was cut off.
According to Odendaal, yournet`s failure to renegotiate a deal with Telkom has signalled its end.
