BitDefender to challenge AV market

Romania-based BitDefender has introduced the latest version of its anti-virus (AV) to the South African market.

It says the version integrates AV, firewall and anti-spam modules into a single package aimed at home and corporate users.

In addition to providing the standard facilities of its three main components, BitDefender 8 for Windows workstations includes configuration wizards and comes with a bootable rescue disk that enables users to recover workstations downed by malicious code.

Daniel Balan, BitDefender technical support manager, acknowledges competitive AV products from vendors like Norton and McAffee are well established in SA, but is confident BitDefender will win market share.

"I am confident BitDefender will make an impact on the South African market within the next two years," says Balan. "BitDefender is committed to the consumer market, offers 24-hour chatroom‑style support, delivers one hour response to new viruses as well as frequent automatic updates, and does not slow down computer operations."

A basic edition of BitDefender 8 is available for free download from the Web site. The standard edition with basic Internet , and the professional plus version with full AV and Internet protection are available from southern African distributor, Holton and Associates.
