Fujitsu Siemens Computers and Comztek have announced a South African distribution deal aimed at increasing the reach of Fujitsu Siemens in Africa and completing Comztek's product offering in the local market.
The deal expands an existing partnership. Comztek has been distributing the Fujitsu Siemens range of computers through its resellers in other African countries for the past two years.
"Comztek will significantly expand Fujitsu Siemens' reach in Africa through its loyal reseller base in SA, Kenya, Namibia and Zambia," said Fujitsu Siemens MD Mark Wilson.
Although Fujitsu Siemens has other distributors in Africa, Wilson said Comztek was active in different markets and there would be no clash of interest.
Comztek's consumer electronics business unit director Heinz Stephan, said the range of Fujitsu Siemens computers was the "missing link" needed to complete Comztek's offering of IT infrastructure building products.
Although Comztek has not sold servers, desktops, notebooks and handheld devices in the local market before, Stephan said it was a practical and logical extension of the company's existing business.
"With the distribution of Fujitsu Siemens computers in SA, Comztek will have the economies of scale to drive its consumer electronics business throughout Africa," he added.
Wilson said he expected Comztek to do particularly well in the mid-range market, although it would also sell entry-level computers and products aimed at the enterprise market.
