Telecom Namibia in R 22-m upgrade with BSW

BSW said it has completed the first phase of a R 22-million network management system for Telecom Namibia. Designed and developed by BSW, the system controls a 200-site network. Colin Haynes, BSW account manager, said the system is designed for fast, effective fault tracing and correction across Telecom voice, data, and radio communications services. BSW was awarded the tender in December 1996 and has worked with two main subcontractors - HP and Atio Corporation.

R 12-m upgrade to Telkom Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH) network management system

BSW Telecoms said it has secured a R 12-m order from Telkom Networks` TMN division for an upgrade to its network management application. The application is based on BSW`s AccessView software. Designed for large networks, BSW said AccessView provides an integrated view of the entire Telkom computer network - represented in graphical format - from any workstation around the country.

Olicom unveils high-capacity 32-port ATM switch

Olicom has unveiled a new high-capacity ATM switch designed for high-speed, fault tolerant backbones in the large enterprise network. Olicom said its new CrossFire 9200 ATM Switch can be outfitted with up to 32 155 Mbps ports or seven 622 Mbps ports. The CrossFire 9200 is an enterprise-class backbone ATM switch with redundancy and fault tolerance features that make it suitable for mission-critical networking applications, Olicom said.

Nestle installs first voice-over-IP in SA, says Blue Sky

Specialist systems integrator Blue Sky Networks said it has deployed Cisco equipment in a voice-over-IP network solution for Nestle South Africa. Nestle said the solution will save it R120 000 annually and makes it a technology innovator within Nestle worldwide. According to Blue Sky account manager, Chris Henchie, the Nestle implementation is the first voice-over-IP installation in South Africa.
