The AppsAfrica Innovation Awards competition is looking for the best in mobile and tech apps from across Africa.

Africa based start-ups are invited to enter the fourth annual AppsAfrica Innovation Awards, which celebrate the best in mobile and tech from across Africa.

The AppsAfrica Innovation Awards, which aim to showcase the continent's most innovative ventures, provide winners with industry recognition, global publicity and networking opportunities.

A past finalist of the competition includes what3words, a South African free mobile app that provides a precise and simple way to talk about location by dividing the world into a grid of 3m x 3m squares and assigning each one a unique three-word address.

The other, FeastFox, is a Cape Town-based eating out mobile app, which allows users within central Cape Town to book a restaurant table on the spur of the moment. The app approaches dining experiences from a new perspective, focusing on spontaneous eating out with its "book now, eat now" concept.

According to the event organisers, the awards are open to corporates, established ventures or start-ups that have launched tech services in at least one African market across 14 categories, which include disruptive innovation, IOT, health tech, edtech, fintech, agritech and social impact.

Applications will be assessed by a team of expert judges. The deadline for entries is 7 September. Shortlisted finalists will be announced in October.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Cape Town on 12 November and will be invited to Africa Tech Summit Kigali 2019 to join more than 400 tech leaders from across the continent.

Interested parties can apply here. There is an application fee of $125 per entry.
