Web surfers cash in on free Internet shopping trial
Digital Equipment Corporation has launched the first free public trial of its MilliCent microcommerce system for the Internet. The trial participants are being given free electronic cash to buy information over the Web.
Digital said its microcommerce system enables users to purchase Internet-based soft goods and services, from online news to music clips and Java applets, in small increments - from one-tenth of a cent up to five dollars or more.
Online stores driven by MilliCent technology will be able to use any combination of pay-per-click, subscription, promotional incentives, advertising rebates, tiered services and loyalty reward points, Digital said.
