Cisco Systems and Microsoft extend alliance

Cisco Systems and Microsoft said they would work together to provide a solution for deploying streaming media in corporate environments. The announcement relates to the Windows Media Player, Windows NT Server NetShow Services, NetShow Theater Server and Cisco`s IP/TV and other Internet products. Additional details on how these technologies will interoperate will be announced over the next few months.

ISPA beefs up SA Net throughput

The Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) said it has upgraded the infrastructure of the its Johannesburg Internet Exchange (JINX). The commissioning of a Cisco Catalyst 2924 switch with 24 10/100 ports and a three-gigabyte backplane means better throughput for traffic between the networks of local Internet access companies, and faster Web access to local sites for SA users. The total capacity into the ISPA`s two peering points stands at close to 16 megabits per second, said the association.
